Now it's Basketball

Our current sport is now basketball. Megan and Declan are both playing on teams made up of kids from their school. They're both having a ton of fun and entertaining us at the same time. Here's a picture of them after their games today. And if you're wondering...yes, we've ordered Declan smaller shorts since he's swimming in his current pair.

Christmas Choir/Dancer

Megan and Declan went to a local place with part of their school children's choir to sing/practice Christmas carols. Check out Declan in the front row. He's really feeling the music, isn't he? Megan is right behind and to the left of Declan. (You'll have to pause the music on the right of this page to hear this video clip).

Basketball Season

Megan and Declan are both playing basketball this winter. Declan's first game was today. They played the Fast Breakers from All Saints and won 5-2. They lower the goals to 6 ft for the kindergarteners. It was fun to watch.

Here's Declan in the warm ups. He's #9 shooting the ball.

Out of the Crib

As if putting up Christmas decorations wasn't enough, we decided to move Ryan from his crib to a toddler bed this weekend. He's a little older than Megan was when she moved into the toddler bed, and a little younger than Declan was. So...we took the crib down once again and put it back up in the attic. I was expecting Ryan to take full advantage of being able to get in and out of bed on a whim, but he surprised us and didn't do any midnight exploring. He even stayed put during his nap the next day. Stay tuned because I don't expect this to last. Here's a pic of the "new" bed with and without it's new owner.

The Tree is Up

Like many others, we put up our Christmas decorations on Thanksgiving weekend. Megan and Declan were really into helping decorate the Christmas tree this year and could actually hang ornaments above the bottom branches. Ryan was fascinated with the tree. We forsee a lot of "Don't Touch" over the next few weeks.

Happy Thanksgiving!

We have had a peaceful and relaxing Thanksgiving day with so much to be thankful for! We started off by watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. The kids were very excited to see Santa at the end. It was a beautiful day here - sunny and in the mid 60s, so the kids got to play outside for a while. Rob made his traditional turkey for our Thanksgiving meal. I hope everyone reading this had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Here are a few pictures from the day.

Megan's Birthday Party!

Megan's birthday party was today at The Little Gym. She had 18 friends there along with some assorted younger siblings. It was definitely a high energy event, and the kids had a lot of fun. She had a soccer cupcake cake and a general soccer theme. Here's a picture of the entire crew!

More Soccer

Here is a picture from Declan's soccer game yesterday. Declan has decided he prefers soccer over t-ball. There's way less standing still in soccer!

Rock Star

Megan came out of her room like this the other day. When I asked her what she was, she said, "I'm a rock star!".

Cleaning Again?

Ryan has taken a liking to the Swiffer Sweeper. And he is very pleased with himself as you can see from the photos.

Declan

Megan and Ryan both have a set of pictures that show them with different facial expressions and poses - all in one frame. We took Declan to get something similar done. Here are a few of the poses.

Jeep

We had the top off the jeep for a few weeks this summer. The kids loved it!

First Day of School

Declan started kindergarten today, and Megan started first grade. They were both very excited to start school. This is Declan's first time to be in school all day for five days a week! Here are a few pictures from this morning. Ryan was very interested in exploring Declan's new classroom.

Buddy-Bud is Five!

This weekend was Declan's birthday weekend. He turned five in grand fashion. We started with breakfast and "rainbow" pancakes. The "rainbow" is courtesy of M&Ms and as you can see from the picture, lots of powdered sugar and chocolate writing.

After breakfast, we surprised Declan with a visit to Six Flags. It's the first time any of the kids had been there. We had a great time, rode some fun rides, and met a few characters.

It was a busy day, and here's what Megan and Declan looked like on the way home from Six Flags. Ryan had gotten most of his sleep at the park, so he was much more alert.

After we got home, and everyone woke up, we blew out candles, ate cake and opened presents. Declan got everything from Spiderman, Batman, and Transformers to Indiana Jones, Lightning McQueen, and pirate ships! He was in 5-year old heaven!!

On Saturday, we had Declan's birthday party at Peter Piper Pizza. His friends Jake, Christa, Chelsea, Drew, and Eowyn were there along with their parents. Mom, Dad, Megan, and Ryan also tagged along for the fun.

Happy Birthday Buddy-Bud!!!!!

Summer Vacation Part V

We drove from Indianapolis to Memphis for the last part of our summer vacation. We saw Graceland and had some good Memphis barbecue at Marlowe's. Megan was really into the Graceland audio tour headphones, but Declan lost interest in the first 10 seconds. I think they'll have to come back to this blog to even remember they were there. I will say that Elvis had "interesting" taste in home decor.

Summer Vacation Part IV

After Mammoth Cave, it was a relatively short drive up to Indianapolis, where we got to see a lot of friends and family. We had a great time with Grandma and Grandpa Wampner. We fished in their pond and played miniature golf at Rustic Gardens (which was built in the 1930s). Rob played there as a kid.

We also went to our old favorite, the Children's Museum with them. The new exhibits since the last time we were there were the super hero comic books and Curious George. My favorite is still the cool dinosaur exhibit.

We were also lucky that Grandma Ihle flew up to Indy from Florida while we were there, so we got to spend some time with her too. We met her and Aunt Kathy at one of our favorite southside restaurants, The Oaken Barrel, and also went to the Indianapolis Zoo with them. Here's Grandma with the kids in Aunt Kathy's pretty backyard.

Funny Megan story: At dinner one night with Grandma Ihle and Aunt Kathy, Megan was slouching in her chair, so I asked her to sit up straight. Aunt Kathy said she should sit like a nice southern belle. To that, Megan replied "Ding Dong" as she rocked back and forth like a bell. That's our girl!

During our trip, we also got to hang out with the best neighbors in the entire world, the Camps. They cooked out for us (great grilling Curt), and Sheila made our favorite broccoli salad that we couldn't get enough of when we lived across the street from them. We even made an ice cream run just like in the old days. Allie and Rachael are both about a foot taller since we moved away and have both grown into beautiful young ladies with hearts of gold. We missed seeing Olivia while we were there, but she was working on a horse farm practicing for her future career! Here's Rachael hanging out with Declan and Ryan while we all relaxed in the backyard. Those Camp girls have quite the knack with kids!

Next stop: Memphis.

Summer Vacation - Part III

Mammoth Cave National Park is the world's longest cave system. It's currently 367 miles long, and they discover 1 - 2 more miles every year (according to our guide). The entire park area is over 52,000 acres.

It's a really beautiful and peaceful place. We saw a lot of wildlife including this deer on our morning walk.

We took the "Frozen Niagra" tour of the cave. It sure is dark in there when they turn out the lights. Our guide was even nice enough to take a family picture for us while we were down there.

Here are a few more pictures from our short stay there. The next stop is Indianapolis.

Summer Vacation Part II

We drove up to see Bev and Bill's place near Guntersville. It's nice and peaceful out there. The area is really pretty. These first two pictures are different views of Lake Guntersville. The kids thought the chickens were pretty neat. Fresh eggs really do taste better if anyone is wondering. (Thanks for giving up your bedroom Bev).

Bev and Bill don't live too far from Tricia, so we also had dinner with her and her family, got to ride in their RV (which the kids thought was really cool), and had a really great time telling old stories and catching up. Tricia can still make me laugh so hard that I cry. Between the two of us, we have five kids! We actually got them all in one spot and looking in the same general direction for a picture!
This was our last night in Alabama. The next post will chronicle our visit to Mammoth Cave National Park!
